It is not that I am addicted to Facebook that much – ok I might be a little bit, but who isn’t?- but listen to that!

It seems like Facebook contributes to the engagement between the brand and its “likers” and this time is not on the company’s hands but on those of the users.

Finally, there are notifications for new posts from fan pages. Oh yes! Now you are able to get notifications for your favourite fan pages recent activities and you will not miss a thing anymore.  Your fanpages’ posts will not be covered by the bombarded posts and likes from friends and other fanpages.

When Iwas in my second year of studies in Lancaster University I conducted research about whether a company should get on Facebook and how to manage its page and digital profile. What came out from the focus groups was that people were not interested in liking brand pages and getting bombarded by their long posts. Facebook for them was more personal and they used it to get in touch with their friends.

I agreed with them back then. But I am wondering whether they would have said the same now. I feel a lot more different about that. Facebook is not just a way of communicating with my friends but it is a way of getting up to date with world’s news of my interest. Maybe it is only me and maybe it is this specific time of life that makes me feel that way and I want to know everything with less time spending. I am in that relaxing -not- phase of my life where I am looking for a job, I am trying to finish my masters dissertation and I want to know everything about new conferences, gadgets and marketing campaigns etc.  I catch myself getting on Facebook and spying on brand pages and other fanpages than on my friends. Instead of checking each page, with the high risk of missing a couple of them, I get fanpage notifications with all the update content.

So now I do not have to go through each page that I am an active follower to and see whether they posted something new and at the same time I do not have to open my email account and get a heart attack from the 3 digits number of newsletter emails.

You can manage from which pages you want to get notifications by clinking on the “Like” button and ticking the “Get notifications” option.

Thank you Facebook!

Here is an example of how you can get the notifications!
